Keeping Your Job
Once you have gotten a job, your Employment Specialist works
with you to help you keep it and stay employed. You will probably
meet together to problem solve and discuss how to handle any
difficulties that come up on the job. This usually happens off
your job site, either at your Employment Specialist’s Goodwill
office or at a location in the community. It is also possible
to receive support services at your job site, usually through
job coaching and employer education and consultation.
Job coaching
Your job coach will work with you on two primary things, depending
on what will help you be successful: learning new tasks or
a new way of completing tasks; learning to work in your new
work environment and with new co-workers so that you feel comfortable
and confident. If your job is on a Goodwill contract, your
job coach may supervise your work from day to day. At any job
site, your job coach can help you organize your work, learn
how to do a task, give you feedback on your progress and help
with areas where you need to improve, and help you work toward
your employment goals. Your job coach may also help figure
out if there are accommodations in the work place that would
help you do your job better or more easily. You can also turn
to your job coach for assistance with finding the best way
to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
